The story begins with two young and ambitious solicitors in 1984 – Edward Goldsmith and Chris Williams. Just 30 years old and 5 years out of Law School, the aspiring gents opened two small offices, one in Allerton, Liverpool and the other across the River Mersey on the Wirral. Eddie headed up the Wirral branch, assisted by only two part time secretaries while Chris ran the Allerton office with one part time and one temporary secretary.
Their hard work inevitability paid off and two years later, in 1986, the duo turned trio with the introduction of fellow partner, Simon Cottrell. With Simon and his Litigation expertise brought a new, exciting Personal Injury Litigation department. Previously, the company’s primary focus was Conveyancing, which attributed to 80% of the business turnover.
The company continued to grow from strength-to-strength so much so that in 1989 it required a larger basis. The Allerton branch of Goldsmith Williams relocated to a sleek, city centre office on Stanley Street in Liverpool. The following year, the offices expanded further, due to an ever increasing workload and a high demand for the company’s expertise.
In 1996, the Wirral office closed and staff joined their colleagues on Stanley Street. The business was then streamlined to fit in with the requirements of a high profile specialised law firm.
But it wasn’t long before Goldsmith Williams grew too big for Stanley Street premises too and in 2002 the company acquired Mersey Chambers, once the prestigious headquarters of Harrison Line Shipping Group with views of the famous Liverpool waterfront.
Following 16 months extensive renovation, the stunning Grade II listed building was fit for purpose and the fully established Goldsmith Williams family moved in.
The company, now 27 years old, currently employs nearly 300 employees and amongst them experts in Wills, Probate, Remortgage, Conveyancing, Financial Claims, Road Traffic Accidents and Personal Injury, waiting to help you with whatever legal service you may need.
